about

Written in bursts, these positive ambient tunes were meant to calm the turmoil of the arrival of our first child, a son.

A turbulent little man, he came a month early, was sick and hurting for months without being diagnosed, and we made every parenting mistake in the book. He did it tough.

But little by little, he grew into himself and the world. He started forming his personality, which exactly mirrors yet refines the raw intensity that was his first year. He's close to 3 today; a loving, bellicose, and stubborn little man, who is as sensitive as he is pig-headed.

He has a little brother now, who he has never hit, hated or hollered at. Accidental slights suffered by the younger quickly bring tears of remorse to the eyes of the elder upon recognition of his actions - in a way that he is incapable of replicating for anyone else.

The music did not calm him. He barely heard it, really. It bounced straight off of him. But writing it calmed me. I fought every urge to swing to the minor and diminished that is present in so much of my other music, and I'm glad that I did.

Looking back on a lot of my discography, as disjointed and sporadic as it is, it's sometimes hard to reconcile with myself how aggressive, angry, and raw it can be. And let's face it, not a lot of people know about or like my music. It can be hard to listen to and isn't very accessible at the best of times.

I am comfortable with that kind of isolation now. And maybe that's why this is such a cathartic release for me. Instead of emailing endless beats into the capitalist rap world's infinitely gaping maw, or trying to shill my 'product' on meaningless social networks (which has never sat well with me), this music was written for an audience of only one.

And hey he still didn't like it so whatever, I'm putting it on Bandcamp for $3!

I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed making it. But to be honest I sincerely doubt the possibility of that.

Love dad-bod dos.
